Samuel Pious Carrico was the son of Francis Marion Carrico & Eliza Jane Willett born July 13,1873.

He married first to Idella Hayden on Feb. 4, 1895 in Fancy Farm, Graves Co., KY. Idella died Feb. 11, 1896. They had 1 child, Mary Lucella Carrico born Feb. 7, 1896 who died as an infant.

When I first discovered this picture, I wasn't sure if the woman in the picture was Idella Hayden or his 2nd wife Ludie May Ballard.

Paging through A History of St. Jerome Fancy Farm, Kentucky - Sesquicentennial 1986 edited &
compiled by Bro. Leo Willett, S. M. I noticed a picture on page 159 of Samuel's brother Henry Manuel Carrico & wife Augusta Hayden taken on their wedding day in 1903. Not only is the dress that Augusta Hayden is wearing identical to the one worn in the above picture, the two women almost appear identical with the same hair style and even their pose.

According to Mary Louise Donnelly in her Edward Willett Colonial Maryland Pewterer, County Clerk, Plantation Owner his Ancestors and Descendants, Augusta Hayden was the daughter of  Clement Hayden & Julia Florence Hobbs. She lists an "Ideallar Hayden" b. 1874 as a daughter of Clement's brother Robert Abel Hayden & wife Louisa Emma Hobbs. A search of the 1880 census indicates this is how her name is listed in that cencus. It seems likely that Ideallar was Samuel P. Carrico's 1st wife Idella.

The striking resemblence of the two woman indicates that the above picture is Idella Hayden with Samuel, & not his 2nd wife Ludie May Ballard.
