In the Name of God amen.  I Vincent Carrico of the Township of St. Ferdinand, County of St. Louis, Missouri Territory being weak in body but of sound memory (blessed be God) do this sixteenth day of March in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen make and publish this my last will and testament; in manner following;)

that is to say, first I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Susannah Carrico my plantation and four hundred arpens more or less of Land whereon the said plantation situate:  lying and being in the County and Township aforesaid and being the place where I late resided about one mile and one fourth from Belle Fountain to have and to hold for her own free use and benefit during her widowhood, and in case she the said Susannah intermarrys again then the said “land” to decend to my two loving sons

that is to say to my loving son Felix Carrico one hundred and ninety one arpens of land that part of the said farm or tract of land granted by the Spanish Authorities to Dennis Carriger [is this Vincent's brother Dennis Sylvester Carrico?].

and to my loving son “Silas” Carrico two hundred arpens of land, that part of the said farm or tract of Land that I purchased from the Administrators of the Estate of Hezekiah Lard;

and I give to my loving wife Susannah Carrico one Negro woman by the name of Ally, one Negro man by the name of Abraham and three horses, six cows, one yoke of work oxen and an iron bound cart, ten head of sheep, and all my hogs that I have running on the farm that I have give to her three plows and all my household furniture, beds, bedding, wearing apparels and household goods and kitchen furniture unto my loving wife Susannah Carrico to have for her own free use and benefit during her widowhood and in case my said wife Susannah Carrico should intermarry or die then the said goods and chattles and slaves to be equally divided among my children according to law, and I give and bequeath all that tract of land that I bought of Jaques St. Vrain containing eleven hundred and seventy five arpens lying and being in the Missouri Bottom joining the plantation of Paschal Cere and lying and being in the Township and county aforesaid to my loving sons and daughters to wit:

Asa Carrico, Elizabeth Martin, James Carrico, Daniel Carrico, Benjamin Carrico and Walter Carrico that is to say in form following to wit:

to my loving son Asa Carrico his part beginning at Paschal Cere's corner in from C. Lucas' line thence running along Cere's line east one hundred perch thence to run in an oblong square with Lucas' line so as to include his one sixth part of the said tract of land

and to my loving daughter Elizabeth Martin to begin at my son Asa corner  in Cere line and running on Cere line one hundred perch thence in an oblong square to lye along my said son Asa line so as to include her one sixth part of the said tract of land

and to my loving son Daniel Carrico beginning at my daughter Elizabeth corner in Cere line, thence along Cere line to the east corner of my said survey, thence North 27 degrees East along the division line between me and Soulard so that to run a west course and strike my daughter Elizabeth line will contain her one sixth part of said tract of land:

and to my loving son James Carrico to begin at my son Daniel's corner in my daughter Elizabeth's line thence running east on my son Daniel's line to the division line between me and Soulard thence along said division line North 27 degrees east to Musick's corner in the said division line thence along Musick's line, North 87 degrees West so as to contain his one sixth part of the said tract of land. 

and to my loving son Benjamin Carrico and to my loving son Walter Carrico the remaining two sixth part of the said tract of land to be divided into two equal parts as it respects quantity and quality.  and Benjamin to take his choice and the last sixth part to be my son Walter's.

and I give and bequeath to my loving son Vincent Carrico and my loving daughter Lydia Carrico the plantation whereon I now reside, lying in the Township and County aforesaid to be equally divided between them as it respects quantity and quality and timber and to be divided so that my son Vincent Carrico part shall include the dwelling house and improvements near it and my Daughter Lydia part to include the improvements next to the Creek.

and I give to my loving Daughter Susannah Carrico and my loving Daughter Meleny Carrico all that tract or parcel of land that I bought of Gabriel Loire and annother tract

joining Gabriel Loire containing two hundred and eighty two arpens that was granted to me by the Spanish Authorities and one of which corners of land starts from the corner of Paschal Cere's land.  both tracts or parcels of land lying in the Township and County aforesaid.  the said two tracts of land to be equally divided as it respects quantity quality and timber between my said two Daughters, Susannah Carrico and Meleny Carrico, and if either Susannah Carrico or Meleny Carrico should die before they become of age the one that survives shall take all of the two tracts of land and if they both should live, and either of the other heirs should die before they come of age, then, and in that case Meleny Carrico is to give up her part of the said two tracts of land and Susannah Carrico is by my will to have all of the two said tracts of land and I do will that my said daughter Meleny shall in lieu of the part that she was to have of the said two tracts have and take that part or portion of land that was willed and bequeathed by me to the heir that should die, and if all the heirs should live to come of age then, and in that case I do will and bequeath to my said two daughters Susannah Carrico and Meleny Carrico six hundred arpens of land to be taken out of my land lying on Salt River that I bought of Fronsie Gunier being a part of his Salt Lick survey and which land is laid off in three hundred arpen surveys and numbered one, two, and so on.  my said daughter Susannah Carrico to have and take the tract of said land numbered one and containing three hundred arpens, and my Daughter Meleny Carrico to have and take the tract of said land numbered two and containing three hundred arpens.

and I give and bequeath to my wife's sister's daughter Margaret Todd one hundred arpens of land that she shall carve out of my said tract of land lying on Salt River that I purchased of Frimore Delxxxx  it being part of his Salt Lick survey.

and I do will and in a partic  xxx  say that in consideration of the faithful services of my Negro man Willis and have heretofore promised him that on the first day of January next I do emancipate and entirely free my said Negro man Willis from any demands that I myself, my heirs, executors or administrators may have on or against him and do expressly will that he shall from the first day of January next go forth free his own man in every sense of the word,

and I do will that all the rest of my lands and tenements, hereditaments, goods and chattls and money due me by Bond, Note, Bank account or otherwise shall be equally divided between my children according to law

and I do will that all the rest of my slaves that are not disposed of in this my will shall be hired out by the year and the whole amount of their wages shall be kept and put out on interest with good security and in case my wife Susannah Carrico should intermarry then, and in that case the hire of these my slaves shall be appropriated to the schooling of my minor children. but if my said wife Susannah Carrico should not intermarry but remain a widow, then, and in that case the hire of my said slaves is to be kept and as above mentioned if it can be on in trust untill all my children should arrive at age and then to be equally divided among them according to law. 

I do likewise consititute, make and ordain Susannah my wife and my son Asa Carrico and my son in law Moses Martin Executors of this my last will and testament and I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke, and disanull all and every other will and testament by me made and do ratify and confirm this my last will and testament  xxxx thereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.

Signed, sealed, published, pronounced, declared by the said Vincent Carrico as his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who were present at the signing and sealing thereof.  The words “land” “Carrico” and “son” interlined before signing.

Before me Mary Philip Leduc Clerk of the Circuit Court within & for the County of Saint Louis in the Territory of Missouri personally came and appeared the within named witnesses, John E. Allen, Daniel Quick and John Patterson, who being duly sworn on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God depose & say that at the request of Vincent Carrico the within named Testator, and in his presence, and in the presence of each other they and each of them subscribed their names to the within Last Will and Testament as witnesses to the same; that he the said Testator Vincent Carrico signed, sealed and acknowledged the same in their presence as his last Will and Testament for the purposes therein contained; and that at the time of the signing and sealing of the same he the said Testator appeared to the said deponents of sound mind and disposing memory.

Sworn to and subscribed before me at my office in St. Louis this Eighth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen.  Witnesses my name and private seal there being no seal of office yet procured.

I Henri Chouteau, Clerk of the Circuit Court, within and for the county aforesaid do certify that the foregoing last will and testament and certificate xxx are duly recorded in my office in the records, letters and Wills, Book B page 25 and following this sixteenth day of August 1831.  In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and the seal of said court, at the City of St. Louis, the day and year aforesaid.
