Sixteenth Generation

59392. Hans KUNKEL was born in 1530 in Glasshouse, Neuhutten, Germany. Recorded in the I. G. I. Index, issue 1992 at the LDS Library, SLC, Utah Hans KUNKEL and Anna Catharina WOLFGANG were married in 1554 in Glasshouse, Neuhutten, Germany. The original family name in Germany was spelled "Kunkel" as verified consistently by the Kempfenbrunn Church Records. Once they arrived in this county, it was usually recorded by officials who were probably all Englishmen and was quickly Anglicized with many variations. Keeping in mind that our German ancestors could not sign their own name, and variations would be expected. Often the ships captain spelled it Kungel and in the court house in Philadelphia, PA, it was spelled Cunkel when they took his Oath. The Anglicizing from "el" to "le" was not consistent. It varied from family to family and person to person within the same family. The major variations that has been followed in this KUNKEL book, is "Conkel/le, Cunkel/le, Gunckel, Gunkel/le, Konkel/le, and Kunkel/le."
Hans Kunkel, of Neuhutten, was called "Schwarzkoph" in the Parish records.

59393. Anna Catharina WOLFGANG was born in 1535 in Glasshouse, Neuhutten, Germany. She died in 1571 in Glasshouse, Neuhutten, Germany. Dates from I. G. I. International Index, Germany, 1992. LDS Library, SLC, Utah Children were:
