 Notes:
Joseph emigrated to Canada at the age of 8 on the Nova Scotian Allan Line from Liverpool England.  He travelled with two brothers and one sister.  The ship's manifest showed that his family were destined for Amherst NS with his mother and her family and his step-father and his family.  At some point he got employment at Dunlap and Cook where he learned how to sew and make hats and likely fur garments.  After apprenticing there he made his way to Montreal, Quebec and started his own fur business.  He owned this retail fur business for 50 years.  It appears that he quickly met and married his wife and settled down in the middle of Montreal's old residential and business core. Joseph married Agnes Jane WHITEWOOD, daughter of John WHITEWOOD and Mary Anne CORRIGAN, 16 Sep 1901 in Montreal, Montreal County, Quebec, Canada. (Agnes Jane WHITEWOOD was born 5 Nov 1874 in Pointe St Charles, Montreal County, Quebec, Canada, christened 8 Nov 1874 in Pointe St Charles, Montreal County, Quebec, Canada, died 29 Oct 1958 in Montreal, Montreal County, Quebec, Canada and was buried 31 Oct 1958 in Montreal, Montreal County, Quebec, Canada.)
