IV.     11.     Marion James Thrash:   

Marion's birth is recorded in Harrison County Court House, Clarksburg, W. Va., as James Marion Thrash, Birth Record Book 12, page 137. He was born Feb. 15, 1875 and died April 1, 1931 in Akron, Ohio. His birth occurred on Glen Elk Creek, in Union District. Glen Elk is a very short creek, and is now almost in the heart of Clarksburg. The subdivision is now a part of Glen Elk District.

Marion James Thrash married Lillie Josephine Henderson. She was born Feb. 22, 1873. 1 was never able to locate her birth record, which is not surprising at that period of time. So many births were supervised by a midwife and were not recorded. Even as late as the births of some of their children no county record was made, but I am almost certain she was born in Braxton County, West Virginia. Their marriage license is recorded in the Marriage Record Book, #3, page 131, in the Braxton County Court House, at Sutton, W. Va. They were married by Rev. E. S. McClung, on the 20th day of May in 1896, at Mrs. E. A. Henderson's. (E. A. Henderson was her mother, Elizabeth Ann Henderson. Her father died in 1887, when she was fourteen years old.)

Marion James Thrash's father was Michael Thrash and his mother was Rachel Elma Crislip Thrash. At the same time that this family was living on Glen Elk, Rachel Elma's brother, Perrygreen Crislip, was living with his young family just across a ridge on Brushy Fork Creek. The children of the two families often played together. Perrygreen is the grandfather of Helen Crislip Brady. Ulysses Grant Crislip, Helen's father, and Marion Thrash, Elizabeth Brady's father, were especially close friends. Both families sold their properties near Clarksburg at about the same time and both families moved to Braxton County, W. Va., by wagons with their families and belongings.

If so the picture was certainly taken sometime in 1898, since Gotthart was born Dec. 27, 1897. Dad (Marion James Thrash), is the hatless, black-haired man in the third row down from the back, in front and a little to the left of the lady in the white blouse. We think the old lady on the extreme left in the second row may be our grandmother, Elizabeth Ann Henderson. I seem to have a faint memory that this is true and that the gentleman next to her is the husband of the lady in front of, and to his left. This may be just wishful thinking on my part, since I have always wanted a picture of this set of grandparents.
