  What is a mailing list? Rootsweb.com hosts a number of genealogy mailing lists. Some are for specific locations and some, like ours, are for people researching specific surnames. What happens if I subscribe? When you subscribe to a surname mailing list you are in touch with others who are also researching the same surname. After subscribing you will begin to receive postings to the list via your e-mail. These postings will include queries (questions) and responses from other subscribers. The list is a place to exchange information, meet cousins, and help each other in our research. But I'm new to genealogy, should I wait a while to subscribe? Definitely not! This is a great place to start. You will have access to people who can help you get started by telling you where to look for specific information, and what to do next. Okay, how do I subscribe? TO SUBSCRIBE follow these directions: Send an e-mail to [email protected] with the word subscribe in the body of the message and no additional text. Leave subject line blank. TO SUBSCRIBE IN DIGEST MODE (messages are sent to you in batches rather than separate e-mails) send e-mail to [email protected] with the word subscribe in the body of the message and no additional text. TO UNSUBSCRIBE send an e-mail to [email protected] with the word unsubscribe in the body of the message and no additional text. Leave subject line blank. Use D instead of L to unsubscribe from digest mode. Please check double check your e-mail before sending a command to Rootsweb as it will not understand the command with misspelled words, additional text in the body of the message or with text in the subject line.
