"The History of Harrison County Churches" tells that Sampson helped in the building of Zion Church of Christ. This church was located about 4 miles west and one half mile south of Eagleville, in Union township. The church was contructed in 1903. Sampson and Catharine worshipped there as did their daughters Josie Brazzell Jones and Mary Ann Brazzel.

Mary Ann (nickname- Kate) Brazzell- born June 3, 1860 and died about 1933 in Eagleville, Missouri. She is buried in Allen Cemetery, Harrison Co, Missouri
William S. Brazzell- born January 23, 1863 in Harrison Co, Union twp, Missouri and died October 4, 1927 at Eagleville, Harrison Co, Missouri; buried in Allen Cemetery. He married Mary F. Hutchinson on November 7, 1889 in Harrison Co, Mo. Child: Dee Brazzell born July 17, 1890 in Harrison Co, Missouri and married Hazel Gillpatrick on October 20, 1893 in Worth Co, Mo; died December 11, 1959 in Leavenworth Ks.
John P. Brazzell- born July 24, 1866 in Harrison Co, Union twp, Missouri and died August 31, 1932. Married Alice Dixon on May 21, 1889 in Harrison Co. Missouri.
George Henry Brazzell- born August 25, 1869 in Harrison Co, Union twp, Missouri and died May 31, 1949 in St. Joseph, Missouri (Buried Memorial Park Cemetery). He married Bessie May Tripp on June 6, 1900 at Bethany Missouri. Bessie was born August 28, 1879 at Eagleville and died August 20, 1963 St. Joseph, Missouri. Their children were: Ruby Kathereen, Zelma Elizabeth, Alice Lee, Betty Lou.
Josie Ellen Brazzell- born July 1, 1873 in Harrison Co, Union twp, Missouri and died May 13, 1963 at Eagleville, Harrison Co, Missouri. She married Edwin O. Jones. They are both buried in Allen Cemetery in Harrison County, Missouri. Tombstone inscriptions are as follows: Edwin O. Jones, 1869 - 1944; Josie E. Jones, 1873 - 1963.
Sampson died on November 27, 1918 and Catharine was eligible for and filed "Declaration For Widow's Pension" on May 2, 1919.
State of Missouri, County of Harrison, SS:
On this 2nd day of May, 1919, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public within and for the County and State aforesaid, Catherine Brazzell who, being duly sworn by me according to law, declares that she is 80 years of age and that she was born November 15, 1838 at ???. That she is the widow of Sampson Brazzell, who enlisted Aug.29, 1862 at ???, under the name of Sampson Brazzell, as a private in Co "A" 35th Regt. Mo. Inf. Vols. and was honorably discharged June 28, 1865 having served ninety days or more during the Civil War.
That she was married to said soldier August 19, 1858, under the name of Catherine Cook, at Eagleville, Mo, by Willis Allen; that she had not been previously married; that he had not been previously married. That said soldier died Nov. 27", 1918, at Harrison Co, Mo; that she was never divorced from him; and that she has not remarried since his death. That there are no children of soldiers now under 16 years old. That she has not heretofore applied for pension, that said soldier was a pensioner, the number of his pension certificate being 605471. That she makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the ACT OF APRIL 19, 1908, as amended by the ACT OF SEPT. 8, 1916. That she hereby appoints Edgar Skinner of Bethany, Mo. her true and lawful attorney to prosecute this claim.

In the matter of the claim of Catharine Brazzell, widow of Sampson Brazzell, Co A -35 Mo Inf for Widows Pension No 1.140.635.
On this 2nd day of Feb., A.D. 1920, personally appeared before me a notary public in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths Catharine Brazzell aged 81 years, a resident of Eagleville in the County of Harrison, and State of Missouri whose Post-office address is Eagleville, Missouri, well known to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows. I am the claimant in this claim. I am unable to furnish record evidence of my marriage to Sampson Brazzell for the reason that there is no public record of our marriage. It is supposed to have been burned when the court House burned about the year 1874. I ask therefore that the evidence of persons who have known me and my deceased husband since before our marriage be accepted to prove the fact of our marriage. That I never had a son in the military or naval service of the United States and therefore have never filed a claim of any kind or character on account of any such service.
