We are direct descendants of John Alden and Priscilla Mullins through their daughter Elizabeth. I am basically starting over with our family research because#1: cannot find those records since moving and #2: trying to find out about our Welsh ancestry. Some members of family (fathers aunts and uncles spell with "w"-original spelling from the Welsh name ap Owen which became Bowen). My father-in-law always has said that his grandfather was Cherokee. That he was very dark skinned. The story is that Willie B. Bowen was a son of John Andrew Bowen and Caledonia St. John. Willie Bowen was born 25 March, 1880 in Huntsville, Alabama.He died 4 December, 1962 in Woodbury, Tennesse . My father-in-laws relatives say that Willie was not the son of John Bowen and Caledonia St. John/Bowen . Instead Willie was the son of John A. Bowen and his house servant, a lady of Cherokee Indian heritage. Supposedly she is buried to the left of John Bowen while Caledonia is buried to the opposite side.  Does this sound logical? All of my wifes relatives say this is fact. However, as a geneologist I never take this as gospel without a paper trail. Any further suggestions?
