Charles Champion Bradshaw was
born in Manchester, Lancashire c. 1856. By the age of 24, he
was
working as an "artist" in Gorton, Lancashire. He married
Emily
Jane Parker at Chorlton in late 1881, and they had five children
between then and 1894. The Bradshaws appears to have moved around considerably and it is not clear how many of the places they lived that Charles atually operated a permanent studio. After his marriage, they lived in Bowden (c.1882), Altrincham (c.1884), and Sale (c.1886), all in Cheshire. By March 1891 they were living at 18 Fulton View, Withington, Lancashire, and Charles described himself as a "photographer &c." Their son Charles was born in the Chorlton Registration District, Manchester in early 1892. By 1895, he was working as an artist at Ducie Chambers, 57 Market Street, Manchester. In 1894 a daughter May was born at Altrincham, Cheshire, and the family is still shown living there, at Ashley Villas, Ashley Road, in March 1901. Directory entries for 1902, 1903 and 1909 show that he remained at that address for some years, and operated a studio at 267 Bury New Road, also in Altrincham. A cabinet card taken c. 1903-1904, marked with Bakewell & Manchester on the reverse, and taken in either Bakewell or Glossop, indicates that he also worked in the adjacent parts of Derbyshire in the early 1900s. |

lived
at 173 High Street West, Glossop. Dominick enlisted in the
9th
Cheshire Regiment in September 1914, before serving as a sapper in the
