Charles Warwick and his sons Charles and Arthur were travelling photographers in Derby, and probably other towns in the English Midlands, from the 1870suntil at least 1901.

Charles Warwick Senior (c1823-1889) was born c. 1823, possibly in Glenfield, Leicestershire.  He and his wife Elizabeth (born c. 1831 Loughborough, Leicestershire) were in Derby in 1861, where they were living in a "wagon train," and Charles was working as a confectioner.  They had at least six children:
- Eliza, born c.1852 at Nottingham
- Charles, born c. 1859-1860 at Boughton Green, Northamptonshire (the location of a fairground),
- Violetta, born c. 1863 at Darlaston, Staffordshire, and baptised on 5 May 1872 at Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire,
- Emma, born c. Dec 1869 at Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, and baptised there on 5 May 1872,
- Henry Arthur, born c. April 1872 at Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, and
baptised there on 5 May 1872,
- Priscilla, born c. Jan-Feb 1874 at Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, baptised there on 18 Feb 1874 and died there shortly afterwards.
By 1881, Elizabeth had died, and Charles was living with children Emma and Arthur in a "travelling van" on a plot on unoccupied land adjacent or near to 50 Normanton Street, St Peter's, Derby.  He now described himself as a photographer.  Charles Warwick died at Derby in late 1889, at the age of 65.

In 1881, his eldest son Charles Warwick Junior (c1860-) was working as a confectioner, presumably a sweet seller, from a show van in Grantham, Lincolnshire.  He married Harriet Sketchley (1865-1904), daughter of a widowed shooting gallery proprietor, at Derby in mid-1884, and their eldest son Arthur Henry was born at Derby in early 1885.  A daughter Elizabeth was born at Heanor in early 1889, suggesting that they were still travelling.  By the time of the 1891 Census, when they were living in a caravan at Morledge, St Peter's, Derby, he described himself as a photographer, and it is presumed he had recently taken over the business after the death of his father.  His younger brother and sister, Arthur Warwick (1872-) and Emma Warwick were living in another caravan nearby, and described themselves as "photographer" and "photographer's assistant", respectively.

In 1901, Charles Warwick was living with his wife, two children, and an adopted son, presumably still in a caravan, on a property "adjoining 26 Queen Street, Derby St Alkmund".  He was working as a photographer then, assisted by Harriet and their son Arthur, and continued until at least as late as October 1907.  His brother Arthur, on the other hand, returned to the confectionery trade.  He married Fanny Marie Holloway née Hammersley at Salford in early 1892; they had at least four sons and were living in a travelling van at Portland Square, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire by 1901.

Emma Warwick (1869-1939) married another showman, Francis Ferari (1862-1914) at Gateshead in 1892.  Violetta Warwick (b. 1864) married a publican, Frederick Bridgewater, and they were the proprietors of the Cock Inn at Cockpit Hill, Derby St Peter.

Notes by PB: I know that the man in the centre is James Loudon, my husband's grandfather.  He was born 1863 in Kilmarnock but by 1881 was living in Mansfield Woodhouse, Notts, where he stayed until his death in 1931. He worked for the Duke of Portland all of this time on the Welbeck estate as a clerk and then cashier. From his obituary it states about his cricket "he played consistently some 40 years ago for Mansfield Woodhouse and the Welbeck tenants." This would point to him playing cricket in 1891 or thereabouts.

Notes by PB:  My husband believes that he played for Notts County as an amateur but we have no proof of that at present. We assume that it would have been about 1883.
