Edward Montague Treble

of East Street, Derby

E. Montague Treble trained as a photographer in the 1890s, working at studios in London and Worcestershire, before purchasing Dereské's East Street studio in Derby around 1912.  He worked from there until at least the mid-1920s.

Edward Montague Treble was born at Hastings, Sussex in about 1869, the youngest son of Frederick Treble (b. c1830 Middlesex), an artist and photographer, who during his career operated photographic studios in Nottingham, Yeovil, Salisbury, Hastings, London, Brighton and Norwich.  Edward became a photographer at a fairly young age and was working as that at 27a Cripley Road, St Thomas, Oxfordshire in April 1891.  He married Kate French (born c. 1878 at Tunbridge Wells, Kent) at Tunbridge in Kent in 1896, and moved to Yardley, Worcestershire, where he was working as a photographer's manager in April 1901.

According to Craven (1993), E.M. Treble bought Dereské's studio in around 1912.  However, the addresses given for their respective premises are slightly different - Dereské was at 36 East Street, while Treble's studio is shown as being at number 39.  Trade Directory entries show that Treble operated until at least 1926-27.

Edward's older brother Charles Frederick Treble (born in 1857 at Coventry) also became a photographer, with several studios in London, Norwich and Great Yarmouth, as shown in the examples below.
