HISTORICAL NOTES

Jerome Limited were a countrywide chain of photographers who opened a branch studio in Victoria Street, Derby in 1929 (Craven, 1993). The 1932 edition of Kelly's trade directory gives their address as 33 Victoria Street. This building is on the south side of Victoria street to the east (or left) of F.W. Woolworth & Co.'s bazaar, and was previously occupied by William Orme, draper. Although the exact date is unknown, probably by 1934 Jerome had moved to new premises at number 26 Victoria Street, close to the corner with Green Lane, immediately adjacent and to the west (or right) of Woolworth's. Their former premises at number 33 were subsequently occupied by Jackson's Stores Ltd, house furnishers (Kelly, 1941). Craven (1993) states that Jerome Ltd's Derby branch remained open until 1949.

I always welcome new additions to the gallery of images, so please contact me by email if you have any photographs by this studio. Likewise, if you have further information on the photographer of any of the subjects shown below, I would also be keen to hear from you.
