John Henry Waterhouse was born
at Batley, Yorkshire in 1882, eldest son of an iron turner George Henry
Waterhouse (1854-) and his wife Emily née Bateman. The
family moved to Chesterfield, Derbyshire in the late 1890s, where John
became a wood turner. In 1901, they were living at 5 New Street,
Chesterfield. He became a photographer around 1911 and had studio premises at Brewery Street (1911-1912), 7 Cavendish Street (1913-1915), Tapton Lane (1917) and 479 Chatsworth Road (1926-1932). Acording to Adamson, he was also a inematographer, and developed and printed films and plates for amateur photographers. Published postcards of Chesterfield views and events by Waterhouse are also known. |
