William Plowright (or Ploughwright) Booth was born in 1853 at Moulton, Lincolnshire, son of a farmer and grazier William Plowright Booth (1828-1881) and his wife Mary Diggle.  In 1877 he married Sarah Jane Mitchell at Bury, Huntingdonshire, and by 1881 he was living in Worksop, Nottinghamshire.  They had five children.

Heathcote & Heathcote (n.d.) state that W.P. Booth operated a studio at 5 Bridge Place, Worksop, Nottinghamshire from 1879 until 1888.  The 1891 Census shows him living at 6 Bridge Place in Worksop, the premises described as a "photo shop," and he was still working as a photographer, while his wife was a "photo assistant."

Adamson (1997) shows a William Philip [sic] Booth with a studio in Church Street, Eckington, Derbyshire in 1883 and 1884.  There is little doubt that these two are the same person - images of cartes de visite included below show both addresses.
