Employment at Rover ended when he was escorted off the premesis following an incident described as follows:
A coloured man was taunting Jackie, throwing washers at him while working on the assembly line. Jackie was painting with white paint at the time and as the washers continued to be thrown at he him he threatened to throw the paint at the instigator. The washers continued to be thrown and Jackie lost his temper, walked over to the coloured man and said ' you won't be black for much longer mate' as he tipped the paint over him.
Jackie was escorted off the premises and was also escorted when he returned to collect his final wages.
Jackie and his wife Doreen once went to see a stage show with a hypnotist. The hypnotist performed a test to see who in the audience were most susceptible to hypnosis. Doreen was one of the people picked from the audience following this exercise. The hypnotist then gave Doreen a lemon and told her that it was 'the juiciest apple you have ever tasted'. As she was biting into the lemon, Jackie got up onto the stage and punched the hypnotist, also hitting some glass that the hypnotist was standing in front of. Jackie damaged his hand and arm and had to wear a sling.7
