"together with 19 others of his company, were detailed as skirmishers to the left of the
Regiment or Battalion, and were fired on by the enemy;
that on retreating, the horses rode said skirmishers were
made to jump a fence. and that this claimants horse in
jumping, threw him forward until the right side of his belly struck the
but of his revolver, and caused a rupture of the right side, also affecting
the left side"

"I was a private of Co. D. 14th Regt Kentucky Calvary Vols. and was a comrad and an intimate acquantance
of the above mentioned soldier. I remember that at Brookville in the State of Kentucky on about the ____ day
of October or November 1863. I discovered that my mess mate Irvin Brock was so badly ruptured that he
could not sit his horse, and that Dr Turner the Regemental Surgeon wanted to put Irvin in the Hospital and he
refused to go Over time since about ??? and soon after we were discharged. I remember very distincably that
the Doctor said the soldier would never be fit for any further service. This was done in the line of duty
in the service of the United States. I am not related to the claimant by blood or marriage."

1866. during all which time I have worked with him more or less, almost every year, of ordinary farm work,
I have seen him almost every day during the ??? time. We both resided at Daviss County in the State of
Indiana during the whole time since 1866. He is badly ruptured in the right side. I have seen him more than
a hundred times take down his pants and ??? his rupture. He would often have to quit work on account
of his rupture, cannot say how many times, but a great many-"

since my brother he said Irvin Brock was discharged from the army. he has been afflicted with rupture of the right
and was in the same condition upon discharged. I was not with him in the army and do not know when
occasioned his rupture. only as he told it when he came home. He said his horse fell down with while he
was on detailed service."

said disabilities are not due to vicious habits and are to the best of his belief said disabilities are
permanent

hernia (right hernia since war, left has existed for the last 7 years); no fracture of the arm found but an
old dislocation of the elbow joint

"This applicant has the general physical appearance of a person in rather feeble health, his skin is
smooth and tanner from exposure, but moist and free from blemishes." "Hernia - On the right side the hernia
Measures in circumference 19 inches by 9 inches in length" "Left arm broken - there has been a fracture
and dislocation of the left elbow which has left the joint so out of shape that it is undescribable. The elbow
measures 7 1/2 inches above the joint and 6 1/2 below"

his own life hood. The boys name is Edie Brock and is now 43 years of age, I further state that I have
never heard of a divorce being granted to either party."

Irvin Brock disappeard and has not been seen in said locality since leaving his wife and an in???? son age
at that time 20 yrs age now forty three - totally unable to provide for his necessities from that late
his mother has had to provide for his wants and that of her son by such work as she could find ....."
"If said Irvin Brock ever made application for divorce the fact was never disclosed to Elizabeth Brock
though she continued to reside in the neighborhood forever which he left her. It is alledged by Elizabeth
Brock who is my informant that said Irvin Brock her former husband died the better part of the year of
1911, said Elizabeth Brock having never married is the widow of Irvine Brock supporting his in??? son Edie Brock
age 43 yrs"

Marriage License, of which the following is a true Record, to-wit:

1867 I duly joined in Marriage Mr. Irvin Brock and Elizabeth Shifflet by authority of law and of a
License from the Clerk of Daviess Circuit Court."

"I Elizabeth Brock widow of Irvin Brock do hereby make affidavit and say that I was married to the said
Irvin Brock on the 28th day of May 1867 in Steele Township, Davies County, and that I lived with him until 1891
at which time Irvin Brock left home and has never returned and has never supported me, I have an invalid son
who can not take care of himself at all, and is now 43 years old. I had to support him and myself since that
time. I have never been remarried since that time, but have been informed several times of the marriage of
the said Brock, however could not find out his where abouts, until I wrote to the Pension Department and
theyinformed me that he died in Portageville Mo. in the later part of 1911, after which I made inquiry and
have the information that he was remarried and widow and two sons. I have never had any Information or
Notice of any Divorce, and I have never granted any to him, nor have I ever asked for any divorce. I further state
that I had not be previously Married, but that Irvin Brock had been Married prior to our Marriage and was
divorced from his first wife, She died afterwards in Kentucky."

I enclose you herewith declaration and affidavits in support of pension claim of Mrs. Elizabeth Brock, who
claims to be the widow of Irvin Brock late of Co. D. 14th, Kentucky Calvary, It appears from the statement
of Mrs. Brock that she has never been divorced from her late husband Irvin Brock, but that he deserted her
in 1891, remarried and has since died leaving two children and another widow. Please have the matter
investigated promptly and if they are due her see that Mrs. Brock secures her rights.

"you are advised that the above entitled claim for pension requires certified copy of the public record
showing the date of the soldier's death; or, if no such record exists, the claimant should so state, under
oath, and furnish testimony of the attending physician or of persons who were present, showing the date of death.
There is further required testimony of persons who knew claimant and soldier from the time each attained
marriageable age, showing whether she was married prior to her marriage to the soldier and the number of
times he was previously married; also testimony of witnesses who had personal knowledge of the soldier from
the time of his separation from the claimant until his death, showing whether he obtained or applied for
divorce from her."
