Sarah

When the oldest son of Jacob Caplinger, George W. Caplinger,
died in 1851 his
parents were listed as, "J and Ann Caplinger". Some have speculated
that Sarah was Sarah "Ann" and that there was only one wife of Jacob Caplinger.
But in 1820, Sarah was referred to as "Sally." (1) Thus her nickname was
"Sally" not "Ann." Jacob Caplinger may have had two wives. However,
Sarah was his "wife" in 1790 when her husband, Jacob Caplinger, was selling land
in Pendleton County Virginia (now West Virginia.) (2)
In March 1816 Sarah
relinquished her right to be administrator of the estate of her husband, Jacob
Caplinger. (3) Her son, Jacob Caplinger, was living in Scott County very near his
sister, Barbara Caplinger Deering. In that 1820 court agreement "Sally"
was listed "of Scott County." Her estate was settled in Scott County in
1822 by her son George Caplinger, who resided in Shelby County. (4) (5)
There
are no known records connecting her to any maiden name.
