Eleanor Cheney was born in Newbury, Essex, MA (Ma Bay Colony) on 29 Mar 1679.
When she was 15 years old her father died on 10 Sep 1594 and her uncle, Joshua
Bayley, was appointed her guardian. (1) On 17 Dec 1696 when she was 17 years old
she married Richard Shatwell and on the same day her older sister, Hannah,
married Thomas Wiswall. (2) Eleanor had one child with Richard Shatwell,
and when that son was only 3 months old, her husband died on 18 May 1698.
Her father's estate was distributed on 1 Aug 1698. (3) Two months after
the settlement and a little less than five months after the death of her
husband, she married Thomas Safford on 7 Oct 1698 and had another 9 children.
(4) Eleanor died on 22 Dec 1724 at the age of 45 when her youngest son was
22 months old.

He d. Sept. 10, 1694. As four of his children were under age, Joshua Bayley was appointed guardian of John and Eleanor ; and Joseph Bayley of Joseph and James. Before she had become of age, however, Eleanor had married, become a widow and married a second time ! Dec. 22, 1694, " Sarah Cheny " writes in a clear hand her refusal to administer upon the estate of her husband, and requests the appointment of her son, Daniel.

maried with Hanah Cheny Daughter of Daniel Cheny deceased
and of Eloner the daughter of the said Daniel Cheny deceased formerly Satchell,
widdow, and now Safford, All the right that the sd Hanah & Eloner had or might
have in the estate of their said father Daniel Cheny
the sd Jackman having purchased the said rights before this division of sd
estate was made «& with the desire and consent of the Administrator that
the lands should be divided among the children.
