Application for pension
"State of Vermont, Caledonia District. On this Seventh day of July AD 1837 personally appeared in open court before the Hon. Samuel R. Mattock, Judge of this Court of Probate for the district of Caledonia now sitting, Parlly church, a resident of Waterford in the County of Caledonia and State of Vermont, aged 73 years last May, who being just duly Sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of congress passed June 7, 1832.
That he entered the Service of the United States under the following named officers and Served as herein stated That at Willington in the State of Connecticut his then place of residence in the summer of 1779 he entered the service of the United States as a substitute for his father, Asa Church, who was drafted into the company commanded by Capt Woods and regiment commanded by Col Wells, of the Connecticut Militia. That immediately after he joined the said company he marched with the company to New London Connecticut, that he remained at New London on duty with his company for the space of two months when the company was dismissed he returned home. That his company was employed one day every week in building a fort at New London & one day on guard, during the two months he remained there.
That afterwards, about the middle of May 1780 or 1781, he cannot recollect certainly which year, he enlisted into the Service under Capt Noris, in the Regiment commanded by Col Willis the regiment met at Tolland marched from thence to Hebron & thence to New London where he remained as he verily believes, in the Service of the United State for about two months & then marched to the old Indian town of Mohegan, where he remained till he was dismissed. That he served during the last term of the space for four months in the whole, according to his best recollection, that owing to sickness caused by sleeping on the ground near his tent door in a storm & being drenched with rain, he was unable when dismissed to walk home & his father came after him. That during the Six Months that he was in the Service of the United States, he was not engaged in any civil pursuit. That he has no documentary evidence of his Service & knows of no person whose testimony he can procure who can testify to his Service, except the testimony of his brother David Church hereto annexed.
We hereby relinquish every claim to a pension or anunity except the present & declares that his name is not on the Pension Roll of any State. Parlly Church.
