61. JOHN MELTON16 MILTON (MICHAEL MELTON15, MICHAEL MELTON14, WILLIAM13, THOMAS12 MELTON, SR., THOMAS11 MILTON, RICHARD10, HENRY9, RICHARD8, THOMAS/RICHARD7, JOHN6 MELTON, JOHN5, SIR THOMAS4, RICARDUS3 DE MELTON, JOHN2, NICHOLAAS OF1 MELTON) was born October 14, 1729 in Northumberland Co., VA, and died Bef. 1770. He married SYBIL CONNER Abt. 1757, daughter of SAMUEL CONNER.

Notes for JOHN MELTON MILTON:
John Milton's birth is recorded in Fleets Virginia Colonial Abstracts. He appears in Fairfax County Deed Book C, p. 586, 27 Aug. 1753, when he and John Peter Sartor and Solomon Nicholas witnessed the deed of John Smith to James Kills. He sold the Fairfax property inherited from his uncle on eighteenth worry 1755. John Melton and wife Sybill acknowledge a deed in receipt to John Peter Sartor, recorded in missing Deed Book B, p. 22. The first 92 pages of this deed book are now missing, but it is referred to in Order Book 1756 -- 63 on p. 169. This the last Fairfax record concerning John Milton. The following, however, appears in Prince William records in Order Book 1761 -- 1763, p. 253, to Aug. 1762: " John Baylis, Plt., John Melton Def., on attachment. Defendant did not appear. Judgment granted to plaintiffs. The share of having returned that he had levied the attachment on one we being machine of the defendants estate and ordered that he sell the same according to law and money arising from said sell to plaintiff for satisfaction of debt." (The Glassford Mercantile Company accounts in the manuscript division of the Library of Congress, Vol. 190, p. 223 and Vol. 196, p. 251, showed that John's wife was Sybil Conner, daughter of Samuel Conner and sister of Charles Conner.) He is probably the one who appears in the Fairfax County, Virginia, Order Book 1755 -- 63: 15 November 1757. Grand jury, "We present John Melton for keeping a tipling and disorderly house on the Sabbath Day to the knowledge of two of the jury."
