(2) We have found no primary documents that prove definitively that Mary Crowell married Samuel Moore ( 1709-1750). But there are good documents that come pretty close to it.

First , the 1755 will of Edward Crowell mentions his daughter Mary Alston.( New Jersey Archives Vol xxxii Abstracts of Wills p 82).Notice that it was written after Samuel Moore had died in 1750.

Second the 1752 will of Thomas Alston mentions his wife Mary. ( New Jersey Archives Vol xxxii Abstracts of Wills p 12)

Third and most importantly Isaac Moore published a genealogical chart in 1810 which he got from his grandmother who he identifies as Mary Alston. He got his data by talking to Mary which adds credibility since she certainly would know her husbands. Her first was Samuel Moore ( 1709-1750) ( Library of Congress. James Madison Papers , 1723 to 1859 Series 1, General Correspondence Microfilm Reel 11 )

(3) Our Colonial Ancestors and Their Descendants: Our Quaker Forefathers and their Posterity by Ambrose M. Shotwell 1897

"After the death of Samuel Moore, about 1751, his widow, Mary who is believed to have come from Holland, married 2nd Elston or Alston, and after his death, she married 3rd Hays, who absconded with part of her property.  She was laterally known as Granny Hays.  On 3 Aug. 1804, a chart was made out by her grandson Edward Moore II, by which it appears she had then living 4 children, 34 grand children, 98 great grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren.  In the latter part of her life time she was blind, and was much pleased when any of her descendants came to see her.  She is said to have given birth to 13 children, 5 of whom had offspring."
