In 1837 in Scott Co. Ky John W. Deering sold land and belongings to Sanford Deering for $1 "subject to the condition whereas on a settlement with said Sandford I have become indebted to him in the sum of $350 and for which I have executed my writing binding myself to pay him said sum of three hundred and fifty dollars on or before the first day of January 1837". John W. Deering next shows up in Ray Co., MO in 1841 selling land to Simeon B. Deering.

In 1843 Simeon must have been ready to retire. He sold some of his land to John W. Deering.in Deed Book H pg 292 Simeon then sold the rest of his land to his son Oscar in return for future care.
On Dec 6, 1843 John W. and Anna Mariah his wife sold their land in Clay Co., MO Deed Bk H 527 And they are living in Livingston Co., MO in the 1850 census. There is a land transaction there in 1848 between John W. Deering and Henry Stover in Deed BK E pg 139.
The 1850 census lists his occupation as blacksmith. His father and most of his brother's were also blacksmiths. However by 1860 he is listed as a farmer in Hot Springs Township, Napa Co. CA with a net worth of $900.
