Biography of George Graninger

George Graninger was born in Vorderweidenthal, Bayern, Germany in 1826. His mother died when he was about one year old and his father remarried when he was about five. The family emigrated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by April 5, 1844 when George and his half sister, Christina, were being confirmed into the Smithfield church. George is recorded as having been born in 1826; Christina is recorded as having been born in 1830 when she actually was born in 1832.
Two of their siblings were confirmed in the Smithfield United Church of Christ in 1848 so we know the family was still in Pittsburgh at that time. Then in 1850 the family is in Harrison County with a new step-mother, Catherine. In 1860 George Graninger was married and living in Jackson, Harrison County, Indiana with a wife named Lizzie aged 20 and a daughter Louisia one year old. Also living in the household is Sophia Mesta age 60.
