From the Portsmouth Times of Aug. 28, 1880 "A Portsmouth boy in Chicago.  Among the old Portsmouth boys encountered by the Knight Templars and their friends while recently at Chicago, was Ira A. Hannahs, son of James Hannahs, of this city.  He was found at Lincoln Park, in charge of the zoological department.  He is doing splendidly, and is as happy as happy can be.  He is receiving a handsome salary, and has charge of several men, whose duty it is to look after the welfare of the wild animals.  He is polite and attentive to all visitors, and was exceedingly kind to every one from his old home who had the good fortune to meet him.  Visitors who may chance to ride out to the beautiful park on the lake shore, will do well to hunt up Mr. H.  He is thoroughly posted about everything pertaining to the park, and will take pleasure in showing his friends around.  He is anxious to present to the city a pair of his beautiful swans, and will forward them just as soon as the park is in a condition to receive them."

He lived in Springfield, OH in 1895 when his mother died.  See Obit for his mother.
