James was accused of robbery a few months after his marriage.  He and his wife migrated to Williamson Co., TN, probably around 1800/01 because one James Herron paid a poll tax in that County in 1801.  In 1805 he and three brothers (Andrew, John and Thomas) purchased adjoining land on the same day in Williamson Co., NC, on the West Harpeth, near the head.

Ala Court Called & held at the Courthouse for the County of Madison on Thursday the 16th day of June 1791 for the Examination of James Herrin Charged with feloneously Robing the Storehouse of Samuel Estill of sundry goods before The Worshefull

The Prisoner appeared in discharge of his recognezance and It being demanded of him weather he is guilty of the felony aforesaid says he is in nowise guilty thereof whereupon sundry witnesses were sworn & Examined and the Prisoner also being heard in his defence on Consideration where of It is the Opinion of the Court that the said James Shall be and appear before the next Court of Quarter session to answer for a misdemeanor Whereupon the said James Herrin with William Crawford and Robert Kincaid his securities acknowledged themselves Indebted to his Excellency the Governor in the sums following to witt the said James is two hundred pounds and the said William and Robert in the sum of one hundred pound each to levied and made of their goods Chattels lands & Tenniments To be discharged on this Condition that the said James be and Appear before the next Court of Quarter session to be held for the said County and thereto abid by the further Order of this Court

"Taken up by the subscriber, at the foot of Dry Ridge between Craigs Mill and the mouth of Licking River, a pie bald bay and white horse, about thirteen hands high, supposed to be nine o ten years old, no brand or ear mark, the owner is desired to apply to Alexander Mahan on Scotts Road about one mile and a half of Lexington."
