James Hurst married in Amsterdam, Holland on 4 Oct 1608 to Geertrud Bennister with both of them listed as of Retford. He was named as Jacobus Hurst and his age was listed at 26 years old, thus he was probably born about 1582 in Retford, Nottinghamshire, England. The marriage record says he was a bombazine-weaver which was a weaver of silk. (1) By 1633 they were in Plymouth, MA. where his occupation was tanner. (2) He acquired considerable land as can be seen in his will which was written 10 Dec 1657. In his will he named only his Cobb grandchildren which were the children of his deceased daughter, Patience Hurst, married to Henry Cobb. No other children were mentioned. When the inventory of his estate was taken on 24 Dec 1657 his land valued about £72 and his total estate was £97. 6. (3)
