The Daily Record, Rochester, NY Tuesday, March 5, 1929 "E. R. Jennings Estate Under the will of the late Edward R. Jennings, real estate operator, who died July 15, 1928, admitted to probate in Monroe County surrogate's Court yesterday, an estate estimated at $100,000 is distributed. Trust funds provided a life interest in $75,000 for the widow of a deceased brother, Emmett Jennings and a like interest for Caroline Jennings Moore and George Hollister, cousins of the testator. The household effect go to Mrs. Elizabeth N. Hollister and Mrs. Emily W. Hollister, who are the wives of cousins of the testator." |
Her husband, Richard Mott Moore, a prominent physician of Rochester, died in 1916. Their daughter died in 1937, so when Caroline Jennings Moore died in 1940, she had no immediate heirs. She had left a will with a codicil that had been added on May 12, 1940, just six weeks before her death. The two notices below, concerning the distribution of her estate, were placed in the Herald-Mail of Fairport by the same person, Curtis Fitzsimons, attorney for the executor. In the notice of Aug 29, 1940, the Jennings heirs are mentioned. In the notice of Sep 25, 1941, the heirs of Richard Mott Moore are mentioned. It is also of note that in the Rochester Daily Record for Saturday, March 9, 1940, there are two notices of land transfers. |

Rufus P Jennings was the son of Hattie Green and Rufus Peter Jennings, a brother to Caroline's father, Egbert B. Jennings. Rufus P. Jennings Sr. was in business with Samuel Chandler in a dry goods store, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On 27 Aug 1858 Rufus, Sr., drowned. "This accident cast a deep gloom over the community. Mr. Jennings was a member of the then well known firm of Chandler & Jennings, dry goods. His body was found September 5, but that of his companion, J. H. Sullivan, was never found. Mr. Jennings left two sons and a widow, now the wife of Dr. Jas. K. Bartlett. This accident was the result of an attempt to navigate the lake in a shell (canoe) during a storm, in which a good yawl would have had hard work to live." From Milwaukee Under The Charter, from 1854 to 1860 Inclusive. Volume IV. By James S. Buck. 1886.
The widow, Hattie Green Jennings, then married James Keeler and then John K. Bartlett. Her son, Rufus P. Jennings, Jr., moved to Berkeley, CA and was very prominent in the rebuilding of San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake.
