Catherine Montague

We know from the autobiography written in 1811 by her grandson, George Twyman
III, that her name was Catherine Montague and that she married George Twyman I.
(1) They had three children and she was pregnant with the fourth when her
husband died in 1703 Her oldest son, George Twyman II, was about 5 years
old. She was granted administration on the estate of George Twyman which
confirms her name was indeed Catherine. (2) And, she named her fourth
child, Peter after her father. (3) She remarried to Phillip Warwick two and a
half years later in 1705. And Phillip Warwick was summoned t court in 1707
giving security for the orphans of George Twyman. (4)
Catherine and her
second husband, Phillip Warwick, had four more children together. Then Phillip
died in 1719. She had outlived both of her husbands and all of her 8 children
except her daughter Mary Twyman, who died in 1844. The last record we have
for Catherine is in March 1740 when her son-in-law, James Bristow, husband to
Mary, said in court that "he, John Owen (deceased) and Catherine Warwick" were
administrators for the estate of Phillip Warwick. (5) Since he indicated John
Owen was deceased, we can assume Catherine was still alive in 1840.
