From Andrew Patterson of Stratford, Conn byElisha G. Patterson, 1892
"He lived at Cornwall probably until his father moved to Westminster, VT. His deed of his Cornwall land to his brother Matthew is dated March 9, 1769. He moved to Piermont, and probably in advance of his father's settlement there. July 24, 1777, he was appointed an Ensign in Capt. Jeremiah Post's company, in Col. David Hobart's regiment, Stark's brigade, and was engaged in the battle of Bennington, Aug. 16, 1777. Capt. Post died Aug. 26th, and Lieut. Jabez Vaughn was made Captain, and Ensign Patterson promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. He was discharged Sept. 2nd, 1777, and in the following year, 1778, he was 2nd Lieut. in Capt. Ezekiel Ladd's (Haverhill, N. H.) company, in Col. Timothy Bedell's Regiment, and served at that time, one year. He bought land at Wethersfield, Conn., of Stephen Chester, April 22, 1783, which was probably about the date of removal to that place. He and his wife joined the church at Newington (Wethersfield) from the church at Piermont, Feb. 20, 1785. He sold his land in Wethesfield to James Lusk, July 3, 1786. He was a purchaser of land in Stephentown, Rensselaer county, N. Y. in February, 1790. He was one of the original purchaser, at Painted Post, N.Y. of part of the "Phelps & Gorham Purchase," and settled there about 1790, with his sons Ichabod and Stephen, with their families. The purchase resulted in litigation (which had not been determined in February, 1824) and he returned to New Lebanon, about 1793 or 4, where his wife died, March, 1801. He died there May 3, 1809."

His younger brother, Benjamin Patterson, served under him in the Revolution.  See page for Benjamin Patterson.
