History of Missouri, 1908

"Benoni Patterson opened the first farm on the road between Little Prairie and New Madrid.  John Patterson, from Kaskaskia, in 1802, and Hiram Patterson lived in the neighborhood at the same time."

Benning and Hiram Patterson died in New Madrid in 1807.  Their land is being distributed to their siblings in 1816.  Deed BK C pg 499 in Breckinridge Co., KY says the land of the their "brother Hiram Patterson who died without issue, being in the township of New Madrid, MO, on the Mississippi River (adjoining the land granted to Benning Patterson.)"  So, Hiram and Benning had adjoining land and are thus probably the men mentioned in the above History of Missouri.  However, the John mentioned, is from Kaskaskia in 1802.  There may have been two men named John Patterson.

In Breckinridge Co., KY there is a John Patterson mentioned in Deed BK A on Nov 11, 1801 in a boundary dispute.  That John Patterson seems to have married Ally Rice in Breckinridge Co., in 1804.  John Patterson of Breckinridge Co., KY served on a jury in 1808.

In New Madrid a John Patterson is claiming 1000 arpents of land in 1811 between New Madrid and Little Prairie. In 1808 the testimony of Luke Devoir was submitted saying that in 1802 John Patterson inhabited the land.  John Patterson had a wife and three children in 1803.
