THE GEORGE TAGUE FAMILY

GEORGE W. TAGUE
I know very little about my Great Grandfather, George W. Tague
except the little that I can recall hearing my Father, Fred Tague,
say about him. Great Grandfather came from Kentucky. The first
of three marriages was to Johana Caterlin of Ohio. It seems they then
went to Frankfort, Clinton County, Indiana. After the birth
of five children the Mother. Johana, died just after the birth
of the fifth child. Jacob Tague. Great Grandfather gave Baby
Jacob to a kind neighbor to care for. When Jacob was thirteen
his Father " with Wife II came and got him.
Great Grandfather went to Iowa. He became a large land owner
fought Indians and had three more children by his second wife.
His third wife was. AnAn. a Indian woman. I find no record of any
children by the third marriage. This pioneer family was very
rough In language as well as actions. Their boisterousness and
rowdiness embarressed my upright Grandmother, Peree Tague. ,and
she didn’t like them to be around her's and Jacob's children.
Great Grandfather was a huge man, weighed over. four hundred
pounds. He was larger than any available caskets, so years before
he died, he had one made for himself. He still got heavier. by
the time he past on he had to be pushed into his casket and even
squished down to nail the lid on. Dad said that the remarkable
thing about Grandfather was his hair was still shinny black until
his Death. I do not know his age at death but he was up In years.
This man was six feet four inches tall standing in his stocking
feet. Quite a man.
