April 16, 1741, Joshua Toomer, tanner, to Bernard Elliott, planter, both of St. Andrew's Parish, for the penal sum of 2600 pounds currency, all the land given Joshua Toomer by the will of his father, Henry Toomer, bounding E on Joseph Elliott; W on John Toomer; N on Bernard Elliott; S on Stono River; to be redeemed within 1 year by payment of 1300 pounds currency, with interest. Signed: Joshua Toomer, Mary Toomer (his wfie).  Witnesses: The Rev. Mr. Henry Heywood, William Chapman, Joseph Elliocott.  Before Thomas Dale, J. P.  Robert Austin, Register.   Book V p. 310  (proves he is the son of Henry Toomer)

 Joshua moved in 1747 with his son Henry to Wilmington.

Joshua Toomer, Eq., of Wilmington, NC, by his attorney, William Backshell; to Jospeh Elliot, planter, of Stono, SC, for 700 pounds SC money, his plantation & tan yard, being 152 a. of land & marsh & all buildings thereon, in St. Andrews Parish, Berkeley Col, bounding W on Mathurin Guerin; N on Joseph Fuller (formerly Barnard Elliott) & on Joseph Elliot; E. on Joseph Elliot's marsh; S on Stono River; the premises being free & clear, the mortgage having been paid, as by receipt on back of deed.  Whereas Henry Toomer, planter, of St. Andrews parish, Berkley Co., owned certain lands & by will dated 17 Dec 1737 (recorded 13 Feb. 1739) gave his 2 sons, Joshua and John Toomer, certain lands & marsh, containing 961 a., on Stono River, to be divided between them 2 years after testator's death & whereas Joshua Toomer, on 29 Nov. 1746 mortgaged his 152 a. on which he lived to Mathurin Guerin, Elisha & William Butler, trustees for the Baptist Church, at Stono, in the penal sum of 513 pounds 18 shillings 6 pence for paying of 256 pounds 19 shillings 3 pence with interest; the 152 a. then bounding NE on Jospeh Elliot; W on Mathurin Guerin; S on Stono River; & whereas Joshua Toomer in NC on Dec 17, 1753 appointed William Backshell his attorney; now he sells the tract to Joseph Elliot.  Witnesses: Mathurin Guerin, Thomas Tew, tailor.  Before James Parsons, J.P.  William Hopton, Register.

He mentions in his will the salary due me by South Carolina for three years service to be collected by Mr. Thomas Smith, Jr. merchant of Charleston, SC and the two tracts of land, 800 acres, in Anson County at a place called GOLDEN GROVE, near the Broad River, to be sold.

He also bequeathed to his loving wife Sophia, "bed and furniture, the looking glasses in the hall and parlour, and the horse chair, the rum and sugar and wine on hand in store, and the remainder of what cash she may have of mine at the time of my death, with the use of the whole house and lott for two years after she may marry again, but no longer."

Joshua was postmaster, coroner, and notary public in Wilmington.
