Coert Alberts of Voor-Hees who resided in front of the village of Hees near
the town of Ruinen Province of Drenthe, in the Netherlands. The name is
derived from voor, before or in front of, and Hees, the village above mentioned.
Steven Coerte Van Voor Hees of Voor Hees, Drenthe, Holland: b. there 1600; d.
16th February, 1684, at Flat Lands, Long Island, emigrated from Holland in
April, 1660, in the ship Bontekoe ("Spotted Cow") with his wife and children;
purchased a farm at Flat Lands, 29th November, 1660; was a Magistrate of Flat
Lands in 1664, and on a patent, 1667; m (firstly) name unknown; m. (secondly) on
Long Island, Willempie Roeloffse Steubering, b. 1619, d. 1690, dau. of Reolof
Seubering.

His will is dated 25 August 1677,[7] which has been called a "lengthy, odd document" in which he bequeaths his entire estate to his five surviving children.[2] In 1683, he was manager of taxes in Flatlands.[3]
