We have a baptismal record for Louwerens, bap April 8, 1770  with the parents "Ver Breyck, Wylhelmus and Doritte".   His mother, Dorothy Demott, must have died shortly after his birth and from all the eveidence Lawrence must have then been raised by his grandparents, Laurens and Dorothy Vanderbeek Demott.  He certainly had a very close connection to this Demott family.  His grandfather, Laurens Demott, in his will of 1798 left him 104 acres of land in Mercer Co., KY  "Item It is my will that my grandson Lawrence Verbryke shall have one hundred and four acres of land whereon he now lives it being part of a tract I purchased from W. Thomas Maddison and which was laid of for him sometime past, to have and to hold the same unto him the said Lawrence Verbryk his heirs and assigns forever."

The Demott family seems to have moved to Mercer County, KY as early as 1792 as children Abraham Demott, Deborah Demott and Mary Demott are all getting married in Mercer Co in 1792.  Lawrence Verbryck was the witness for the marriage of Mary Demott to David Banta on 19 Jan 1792 and again a witness for Deborah Demott who married Peter Van Nuys on 22 Mar 1792.  Lawrence Verbryck was the bondsman for the marriage of his half-sister, Dorothy Verbryck, to Lawrence Demott on February 17, 1798.  He is also the one who certifies that the bride is of the age of 21. (Actually she was only 20).

Then on December 3, 1793 Lawrence Verbryck married Tiny Banta in Mercer Co., KY with Lawrence Demott as Bondsman.  The bride's father was listed as Samuel Banta.

The tax records for Mercer Co., KY have him on 104 acres of land as early as 1796. This appears to be the land given him by his grandfather as noted in the will of Lauren Demott, Will BK 2 pages 143-146.  Will is posted on page for Laurens Demott.  Lawrence Verbryk continues paying taxes on this land on Harrod's Run through 1803. The next year Tiney Verbryck is listed on the land.

His father's bible record indicates Lawrence was struck by lighting on Aug 18, 1803.  He was only 33 years old and had at least three young children.  The land was sold and Tiny seems to have moved with the children to the Shakers community there in Mercer Co., KY.  She is listed there in the 1850 census.   Among the others listed is, Wm Verbryke aged 55 (b Abt 1798) KY farmer and "Jos" Verbryke born about 1802 KY.  The Mercer County, Kentucky Cemetery Reocrds, Volume III lists  Tiney Verbrike as born June 17, 1776 and died Mary 15, 1852.  William Verbrike born Sept 15, 1795 and died Aug 26, 1851.  The Frisian Family, The Banta Genealogy, says, "His widow went with the Shakers and died among them. Issue: William Verbryck, died among the Shakers, Samuel Verbryck, married and went to Indiana, Dotie Verbryck, died among the Shakers."

Will BK 3 of Mercer Co., KY pages 16, 17 and 18 list the inventory of Lawrence Verbryck.  Samuel Banta (father of Tiney) was administrator.

Banta Pioneers and Records of The Wives and Allies Families by Elsa M. Banta, 1983 says that in 1814 Styntie (Tiney) Verbryck, with her children William and Dotie were signers of the Shakers Church Covenant.  Tiney Banta Verbrike and William Verbrike are buried in the Shaker cemetery at Pleasant Hill.
