A William Verbryck first shows up on the tax records of Mercer County, KY in 1811 paying taxes on 203 acres on Harrod Run with one white male over 21, 5 blacks and 1 horse.  Most likely it is this William who had just turned 25.  Subsequently this William Verbryck is paying on 4 acres of land.  Then in 1816 a John Verbryike starts paying taxes on 4 acres of land.

In 1809 John Verbryck, brother to his father William Verbryck, wrote a will in Mercer Co., KY naming his two nephews. "tem  it is my will that my Nephew William Verbryck be paid for his work he has done to my house if he brings an account forward."  This places William in Mercer Co by 1809 even though he is not on the tax records.  This same will also mentions William's brother, John.  "Item: I give and bequeath unto my nephew John Verbryck one pound and three pence for work he has done for me and did in no pay."  William and John must have come to Kentucky at about the same time.

The bible records copied below were found in the Johnson County Historical Society Library in Franklin, IN.  It was originally owned by Mary Ellen Verbryck who married Henry W. Grose in 1863.  There are birth, marriage and death records for all the siblings listed on this page, plus much information on the descendants of Mary Ellen and Henry Grose.

The information in the library says the bible was printed at Amsterdam, Hollan, by Jan roman, bookseller at the Hoek of the Stilsteg on the Agter dike, in 1721.
