Oral history has it that Enoch left a large amount of his estate to his youngest child knowing that Frank had only a short time to live and thinking that Frank would die without heirs, Frank's estate would then go to his siblings. But after his father, Enoch, died, Frank married and then when he died, Frank's widow inherited a large estate.
According to the obituary above, Viola was set to inherit fifteen to twenty thousand dollars from her husband's estate.

A compromise Effected Between the White Heirs and Mrs. Viola Gaskill White
Last Fall Frank White, the youngest child of the late Enoch White, of Helt's
Prairie, was united in marriage to Miss Viola E. Gaskill, of Summit Grove.
In about one month from the marriage Mr. White died of consumption, leaving the
widow an estate worth $15,000. The heirs talked of bringing suit to set
aside the will made by Enoch White a short time before his decease, on the
ground that he mad made an unequal distribution of his property, having given
his youngest child (Frank) three times as much as any of the other heirs.
In order to avoid a big law suit the heirs proposed a compromise with the young
widow, which was accepted on Thursday last. the heirs gave her $7,000 in
cash to relinquish her claim on the estate, and she is also to have all the
personal property left after settling up the expenses of the estate."
Viola E. White sold to Samuel R. White et al 402 acres in Helt township for $7,000 in Aug. 1881.
