"Educated in the Uniontown public school, John learned the trade of a taxidermist and was the only follower of that trade in Uniontown. his services in mounting animals, fish and other species of game, were always in demand due to his skillful methods in making natural stuffed animals."

Obituary of Emily Morris White  The Daily Courier, Connellsville, PA  Feb 1, 1957

"Her great-grandfather, Morris Morris, county treasurer and sheriff for many years, was the son-in-law of Dennis Springer, one of the pioneer settlers of Fayette County who located here prior to the Revolutionary War.  Mrs. White was the great great-granddaughter of Dr. David Marchand, French Huguenot immigrant whose hospital for caring for soldiers during the Revolution was the first hospital in western Pennsylvania.  She was a direct descendant of Howell Griffith whose persecutions for adhering to the beliefs of the Quaker persuasion were recorded by Besse in his book the "Suffering of Quakers".  Her maternal grandfather, Charles G. Turner, migrated to Benton County, Iowa, where he died.  The present town of Watkins, Iowa, was laid out on his land---Both she and her husband were grandchildren of Fayette County physicians - Dr. William Springer Morris and Dr. John Cary.  Despite her great age, she retained her mental alertness and was able to go about the house unaided until her final illness, which was of short duration...."
