He settled as a farmer in East Middletown on lands which had belonged to his
grandfather and was a highly respected citizen. He was one of the Selectmen of
Middletown in 1729, 35, 44, 45 and 46, and was justice of the peace. He was
chosen a deacon of the Church in East Middletown, now the First Church of
Portland, Jan. 22, 1725.
