Alexander Keeney1

M, b. between 1625 and 1635, d. before 15 October 1680

  • His estate was probated in October 1680; Inventory of estate taken 15 Oct 1680, his widow's name was not mentioned. Inventory taken by Nathaniel Boreman, John Wolcott. Legatees: "The Relict," son Alexander age 18 years, Thomas 16, Sarah 16, Joseph 14, Lydiah, 11, Ebenezer 8, Richard 6 years.4,5
  • Alexander Keeney died before 15 October 1680 at Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut.4
  • Alexander Keeney first appears in Wethersfield in 1666/67, when the town gave him a piece of land for a home lot on the west side of Middle Rd., a little below Goffe's Bridge. After his widow died in 1683, leaving seven children, the town paid for the schooling of two of them.6
  • Freeman in Wethersfield 1667.7
  • , Inventory of the estate of John Colfax was exhibited 6 Dec 1676, and was ordered to remain with Alexander Keeney until further order.8
  • Roscoe C. Keeney states that Alexander "traveled on crude sailing vessel from England, bringing food and household goods..." and later "four children born in England, three in Connecticut before he resettled along the Susquenna River at East Branch in present day Wyoming Co Pennsylvania." Unless Alexander and Alice made a trip back to England in about 1662, then returned to Connecticut, the statement that four children were born in England needs clarification.9
