After his first wife died, he lived at Guilford, Connecticut, married Mary Mepham, a widow, and then in about 1651 or 1652, sold his property and moved back to Milford.

• Hannah was the first school teacher in Deerfield, Mass. During the Indian attacks in 1694, she is credited with leading her students in a narrow escape from the Indians. Both she and her husband were taken captive by the Indians in 1704, but were later returned. When she died she left a landed property to the town for a school fund. The First Church holds a piece of silver plate that was her gift, and bears her name.³
