  2. [S170] Robert Charles Anderson, Great Migration Begins 1620-1633, Sketch of Samuel Bass. Waldo Chamberlain Sprague commissioned research in the parish registers of Saffron Walden, Essex [ NEHGR 107:218-20], but in this research the 1632 baptism of the daughter Hannah (or Ann) was missed. This conflicts with evidence about the daughter Mary, whose gravestone claims she died in 1704 in her seventy-third year [ NEHGR 107:219], which would calculate to about 1632, and would make her about fifteen years old at marriage. Given our knowledge of the other children, the options are to place Mary's birth about 1634, which would make her impossibly young at marriage, or about 1628, which would make her about nineteen years old at marriage, but which would conflict withthe gravestone evidence. We have chosen the latter course.

This list has been compiled from several sources. As the spellings of the names varies from list to list the one used here is the one most frequently found. The Muster Roll was a census used to establish how many settlers had to be provided for. In addition to the information shown here the actual roll also indicates the following, numbers of males, females, children under 10, children over 10 and number of servants. Those marked with a * had their petition for provisions denied. In the preamble to the actual Muster Roll it is stated that there were some claims that were so unreasonable that the names were not inserted in the list. The abbreviation DO means Discharged Officer and DS means Discharged Soldier. Compiled 1999.

On April 1680, John Beaman was dismissed from Dorchester to the Church at Taunton. His son John was baptized at Dorchester on 1 Apr 1677 as, 'son of John Beaman of Lancaster... His wife, Priscilla Thornton being a member of that church before the wars dissipated them,' and in August 1681, 'Jno. Beaman not in full communion was dismissed to the church at Taunton.' Since this John was married by the mid 1670's, he would have been born no later than the early 1650's. This would put him about the same age as the older children of Gamaliel Beamon, but there is no evidence that he belongs in this immediate family. His pressence in both Dorchester and Lancaster does suggest a connection with Gamaliel Beamon, however, and if John is not an elder son of Gamaliel, he is very likely a kinsman of some degree.

Savage states that Thomas was born to Gamaliel and Sarah in 1649 and mentions that "perhaps" Gamaliel and Sarah had a son named John. Torrey also states that this John Beaman resided in Lancaster, then Taunton, then Sterling, which coinsides with Savage, who states that John removed to Taunton, then Sterling where he died. If John was born in Lancaster then he would have had to have been one of Gamaliel's younger children which would put his year of birth in 1659 or later, in which case he would have married at a young age (15-20).
