  • Also known as William Billing.5
  • William Billings, the progenitor of the Billings family of Stonington, Connecticut, first appears in New England at Dorcester and Braintree, Massachusetts. When he came to Stonington is not exactly known, but he does appear among the early planters there. He built a dwelling house on Cosatuc Hill. Through grants and purchases he became a large land owner.1
  • He was one of the first settlers on Block Island (1660/61). "William Billings was one of the Lancashire group at Dorchester, where he was living in 1658; previously to this, in 1654, he appears to have been at Lancaster, Mass. He probably removed to New London by 1667 and was later of Stonington, where he died in 1713 leaving a number of children."6
  • He was admitted to the at First Congregational Church, Stonington, New London Co., Connecticut, on 3 September 1676.7
  • His will was dated on 3 October 1712 proved 14 Apr 1713. "He mentions his wife Mary, his son William, his daughters Margaret, Mary, Lydia and Mercy, his daughter Abigail's four daughters, his daughters Dorothy and Patience, his grandson Beriah Grant, his granddaughter Mary Keeays (the last name is doubtful), and his son Ebenezer who is made residuary legatee and executor."8
