  • He married Love Rogers in 1719.2
  • Thomas grew up in Stonington, but then went with two of his cousins up to what became Windham County, Connecticut, where they purchased and were granted large tracts of lands, the proposed boundries of which overlapped the premises of the adjoining proprietors lands, resulting in a controversy, which ended in reducing the area of the land purchased and received to such an extent before the deeds were obtained that Thomas retired from the land speculation business and went to Gloucester, Massachusetts where he was engaged to build a breakwater for parties there. The location and construction of the breakwater were so ill advised that it received the name of "Gallup's Folly." After completion of the breakwater, Thomas Gallup left Gloucester and went to Ipswich, Massachusetts, where he had relations, but did not remain there long, as he then went to Boxford where he married in 1719.2
