Antje Brouwer1

b. before 1700
  • Antje Brouwer was born before 1700 (assuming she is a daughter of Pieter Brouwer).
  • She married William Ennes at Dutch Reformed Church, Hackensack, Bergen Co., New Jersey, on 13 November 1726 "Married upon license."2
  • Also known as Hanna.3
  • Antje Brouwer is named in her husband's will on 4 January 1771 called wife, Hanna (Hanah).3
  • Hoffman covers Antje Brouwer in "Brouwer Beginnings" (TAG 23:202) and states the following, "The sponsors at the baptisms of her children prove without a doubt that she belongs to this family group of the Brouwer family. (These sponsors are: Petrus Brouwer, Johannes Brouwer and wife Jannetje Mandeviel, Petrus Brouwer and Petornella Montagne, Hendrick Brouwer; see Hack. baptisms and Doremus Genealogy). The year of her marriage, however, makes it possible that she was a grandaughter and not a daughter of Pieter Brouwer, either a child of Uldrick or of Abraham Brouwer. I have tentatively placed her in Pieter's family. On the other hand, there is a record of Hannatie, daughter of Peter Brouwer, who died Nov 12, 1730 at New York, and although Antje and Hannatie are in many cases not identical, it is possible that it refers to the above. If that should be the case, Antje who married William Ennes could not have been a daughter of Pieter for William Ennes and Antje Brouwer had children after 1730." Whether Antje is a daughter or grandaughter of Pieter Adamsz Brouwer can not be determined conclusively with available information. As Hoffman stated, she certainly does belong among Pieter's descendants. She is placed here tentatively.
