Richard Brouwer1,2,3

b. before 1755, d. between 1820 and 1830
  • Richard Brouwer was born before 1755 (over age 45 in 1800).
  • He married Mary Blann before 1779 in possibly Albany County or Schenectady County, New York.
  • Richard Brouwer probably died between 1820 and 1830.
  • Also known as Richerd Brauer.4
  • Also known as Rishert Brauer.5
  • Also known as Richard Brewer (census records).
  • Also known as Derick Brewer.6
  • Also known as Richard Brower.7
  • He appeared on the census in 1790 at Duanesburgh, Albany Co., New York, called Richard Brewer, with a household of 3 males over 16, 3 males under 16 and 5 females. He is enumerated between Lodowick Snyder(?) and Daniel Smith.8
  • He appeared on the census in 1800 at Walton, Delaware Co., New York, as Richard Brewer, with a household of 2 males under 10, 3 males 16-25, 1 male over 45, 1 female under 10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 16-25, 1 female over 45. Enumerated between Anna Cooley and Peter Van Aken.9
  • He appeared on the census in 1810 at Tompkins, Delaware Co., New York, called Richard Brewer, with a household of 1 male under 10, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 16-25, 2 males 26-44, 1 male over 45, 1 female under 10, 1 female over 45. Enumerated between Cornelius Huyck and Andrew Huyck.10
  • He appeared on the census in 1820 at Tompkins, Delaware Co., New York, as Richard Brewer, with a household of 1 male 16-26, 1 male over 45, 1 female under 10, 1 female over 45, 1 person engaged in agriculture. He is enumerated between James Nielson? and Thomas Armstrong.11
  • Richard Brewer is not found on the 1830 census in Tompkins, Delaware Co., New York. In 1830, in Tompkins, Delaware Co., NY is Jacob Brewer with a household of one male age 50-60, 1 female 5-10, 1 female 40-50, and a John Brewer with a household of 1 male under 5, 1 male 5-10, 1 male 50-60, 1 female under 5, 1 female 5-10, 1 female 30-40.12
  • A biography of Richard's son, Richard Brewer (b.1790) published in 1889, states that Richard's father had 14 children, and that Richard (b.1790) was the youngest. If correct, some or all of the eight additional children (to the six known) were probably born prior to 1779. This would imply that Richard was born in the early to mid 1740s, or possibly the late 1730s.13
  • Richard Brouwer and David Brewer, each have descendants who have participated in the Brewer DNA Project (kits nos. 163954 and 157835). The two match on 37 of 37 markers, indicating a greater than 97% chance of having a common ancestor within eight generations.14,15
  • John Brewer is a possible son of Richard Brouwer. (A hunch, based soley upon age and location. Research into estate and land records is the next step).
  • Jacob Brewer is a possible son of Richard Brouwer. (A hunch, based soley upon age and location. Research into estate and land records is the next step).
  • Richard Brouwer and Dirck Brouwer, may be one and the same.
  • Richard Brouwer and Dirck Brouwer, may be one and the same.
  • Dirck Brouwer and Richard Brouwer, may be father and son. This based upon Y-DNA analysis of descendants, but no documented evidence has been found to support the possibility. If Richard (the son) were born in the late 1730s or early 1740s, this father-son relationship would not be possible.

  • Samuel Brouwer was baptized on 25 August 1706 at Old First Dutch Reformed Church, Breuckelen (Brooklyn), Kings Co., Long Island, New York, sponsors Jacob Swaan, Susanna Bourdet.2
  • Samuel Brouwer was probably the Samuel Brouwer who married Maregrita before 1732 (first known child baptized in 1732).
  • Also known as Samuel Brewer.3
  • Samuel Brouwer witnessed the will of Jan Brouwer on 29 October 1732; proved 30 Nov 1732 (inventory taken 13 Nov 1732). Called John Bruer of Somerset Co., New Jersey, farmer. Names children: John, eldest; Dirck, second; Antye, and "last and youngest son." Executors: Johanes Colyer of Long Island, Kings Co., and Tunis Post and Hendrick Bris, both of Somerset Co. Witnesses: William Post, Samuel Bruer, Cornelius Willemse.4
  • Samuel Brouwer was a freeholder at Western Precinct, Somerset Co., New Jersey, in 1753.5,6
  • He witnessed the will of John Smock on 1 March 1760; John Smock of the Eastern Precinct of Somerset Co. Names wife Leah. Children: Tice, John, Charles, Rynier, Jacob, Abraham, Lena (wife of Powel Powelson), Elizabeth, Maria, Leah, Ghartie, Catherine and Jane. Real and personal estate. Executors: his wife, son Tice and Jacob van Tine. Wit.: Abraham van Buren, W. Thomson and Samuel Brewer. Proved 29 Apr 1760. Lib. G, page 179.3
  • On 31 July 1766 Samuel Brewer and Margaret, his wife, of Millstone, Innholder, took out a mortgage on property in Millstone from Peter Schenk, also of Millstone, merchant.7
  • Samuel Brouwer is a possible son of Derck Brouwer. Samuel is possibly the youngest son of Derck Brouwer, in which case Samuel may have named daughters for his mother Annatje/Hannah Dawes He is found at Raritan during the same time as supposed brothers Elias, Pieter and Jacob (Samuel and Jacob had children baptized at the Reformed Church there on the same day 19 Jan 1735). Placement as a son of Derck Brouwer would have to imply that Samuel was born 1702/03 at the latest. (This placement is unlikely, and Samuel is more likely a descendant of Adam Brouwer of Gowanus, L.I.).
  • Peter Brewer may be a descendant of Samuel Brouwer.
  • Samuel Brewer may be a descendant of Samuel Brouwer.
