  • Eldest son, he settled in the vicinity of the Schuykill River in Chester County on 200 acres of land he had obtained through a grant from the Lord Proprietaries. He was married twice, the name of his first wife is unknown but his will shows that he had at least one son by her, named John. Christian refers to this son in his will as the "son of my youth." By his second wife, Eve Bowman, a widow with two children, he had seven children: Emanuel, Christian, Barbara, Enoch, David, Peter and Swanna.4
  • Christian Brower immigrated to the American Colonies in 1726 with his father, arriving at the Port of Philadelphia. He settled at what is now East Coventry Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, along the Schuylkill River, by 1742. He owned 200 acres obtained through a grant from the Proprieteries.2
  • He was found on the tax list at Coventry, Chester Co., Pennsylvania, in 1767 on 200 acres, 3 horses, 4 cattle, 4 sheep.5

I Christian Brauer of Coventry Twp., Chester Co. and Province of Pennsylvania, yeoman, being weak and infirm of Body but of sound mind and memory (blessed be God) do this third day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy one make and publish this my will and testament in manner follows that is to say: I give and devise unto my beloved wife, Eve, that tenement plantation and tract of land fifty acres, whereon George Weimer now dwells at the valuation of two hundred and fifty pounds and her choice of one of my horses and also one cow two sheep the best bed and bedsted with the bedding thereunto belonging with her chest and wearing apparel and the clock and saddle and bridle and the Third part of the Kitchen furniture and also to dwell and continue on my plantation whereon I now dwell and during the space of five years in order and towards bringing up my minor children, destroying and diminishing the value of my said plantation in no ways nevertheless.
    Item, I give and bequeath unto my son John Brauer the sum of five pounds over and above his equal share of my estate he being the son of my youth. And also my will is that after my just debts and funeral charges are fully paid and satisfied and the said sum of five pounds to my son John is also paid, that my executors herein after named shall in as reasonable and short a time as may be after my decease, sell and dispose of the remainder of my personal estate and my will is that the monies therefrom arifing shall be equally divided among all my children, share and share alike.
    Item, I do hereby give and direct my executors herein after named, full power to fell anf convey my plantaion whereon I now dwelleth after the said term of five years my wife's lease on the farm is expired and full power and authority to make a good and lawful title for the same.
    And also my will is that for the monies for my said plantation shall be equally divided among my children share and share alike.
    And also my will is that my wife shall have the grain that is now in the ground and that she shall lease, leave, as much when the said term of five years is expired.
    Item, I give and bequeath to my stepson, John Bowman, the sum of twenty pounds to be paid by my executors out of my personal estate.
    Item, I give and bequeath unto my step daughter Mary Bowman, the sum of fifteen pounds to be paid also by my executors out of my personal estate.
    And I do make and ordain my good neighbors John Baugh and Peter Crumbacmer to be my executors of this my last will and testament here (___) annullling and revoking all other wills and testaments by me made. In witness thereof I the said Christian Brauer have to this my last will and testament set my hand and Seal the day and year above written.

  • He is mentioned in a letter from Charles Vail to Pitt Carl Esq. on 16 January 1852 Writing from Riverhead (Suffolk Co., Long Island), Charles Vail is seeking the aid of Pitt Carl, Esq. of New York City in determining whether or not his wife (whose mother was a Brower) is entitled to cliams upon the Trinity Church property. Charles Vail writes, "My wife's grandfather lived on the west end of Long Island but lost his property and moved to the state of New Jersey but had his mill at Goanses burnt and other property destroyed by the British in the Revolutionary War. And when I knew the old man he lived in Paterson, New Jersey and was a very aged man and that was in 1815. I think his name was Abraham and he had four sons--Jerry, Abraham, Christopher and William. Christopher and William I knew. He also had 3 daughters--Sally, Caty, and Rebecca, the mother of my wife. My wife's mother is dead and so is all her brothers and sisters." Charles Vail also mentions speaking with "Catherin Cannon sister," who lives in Riverhead, whose mother was also a Brower, but from a different family.7
