John Brower

b. between 1760 and 1770
  • John Brower was born between 1760 and 1770 (based on his age on the 1840 census).
  • He appeared on the census in 1840 at Cass Co., Indiana, as John Brower, with a family of 1 male 20-30, 1 male 70-80, 1 female 20-30.1
  • John is the proposed father of Jeremiah John Brower. This is based on his pressence in Cass Co., Indiana prior to and probably during Jeremiah John Brower's appearance there. Jeremiah's middle name, John, also may imply that his father was named John.
Assuming that John is the father of Jeremiah John Brower, and as Jeremiah John Brower was born in New York in 1815, we can search the 1820 U.S. census for men named John Brower, living in New York State, with at least one male under age 10 in their household. In addition, the 1840 census states that John Brower of Cass County was aged 70-80 years, therefore born between 1760 and 1770 and therefore over the age of 45 in 1820. The one John Brower who meets both of these conditions is a John Brower at Petersburg, Rensselaer County, with a household of 1 male under 10, 1 male 26-44, 1 male over 45, 1 female under 10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female over 45. This same man is found at Petersburg in 1810 and 1830 as well, but does not appear there in 1840.
  • John Brower and John Brower, may be one and the same.
