  • His will was dated on 24 January 1850 proved 2 Mar 1852, Ulster County, New York Surrogate's Court. "John D. Brower of the town of Hurley in the County of Ulster and State of New York, considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being of sound mind and memory..." Mentions, first, to my granddaughter Mary, daughter of my son, David Brower, deceased, one bedsted, bed, and bedding, one dining table, one cow and six chairs. To my youngest son, Benjamin Brower, one cow and one bed and bedding. To my grandchildren, James Brower, John Brower, Mary Brower, Rebecca Brower, Elizabeth Brower, Adaline Brower and Antonett Elwyn, children of my son David Brower, deceased, one fifth part of all the rest of my personal and real estate after debts and funeral expenses are paid. To my sons William Brower, Jonas Brower, Benjamin Brower and my daughter Jane, all the rest, residue and remainder of my personal and real estate...to be equally divided between them. Appoints as executors, Levi Drumond of Hurley, Benjamin Brower of Hurley, and Peter B. Elwyn of Woodstock. Signs by his mark. Witnessed by James Bogardus of Woodstock and Larry G. Elwyn (McElwyn?) of Woodstock.6
  • He appeared on the census on 14 October 1850 at Hurley, Ulster Co., New York, as John D. Brower, age 68, a farmer with real estate valued at $4000, with him are (son) Benjamin Brower, age 24, and (granddaughter) Mary Brower, age 18.7
  • John D. Brower is a possible son of David Brower. Age and location fits. The middle initial "D" in John D. Brower is likely a reference to his father's given name, and "D" may be David.
