  • In August 1847 at Monmouth Co., New Jersey, Stephen H. Bruere, Asa Hunt and his wife Susan, late Susan Bruere, petitioned the court for a division of the real estate owned by John H. Bruere, dec'd. John H. Bruere made his last will and testament 22 May 1826 in which he disposed of all the land which he then owned. He later purchased two tract in Upper Freehold township. John H. Bruere died without disposing of these two pieces of land and leaving heirs, all his children. Children of John H. Bruere: Susan Hunt, late Susan Bruere, wife of Asa Hunt; Ruth Tilton, late Ruth Bruere, wife of William Tilton; Price Bruere, Napolean B. Bruere; Joseph B. Bruere; George W. Bruere; and John Bruere. Susan, John and Stephen were the only children over 21 years of age.
    In Book M, page 77, Nov 1847, John H. Bruere's land was sold, and his widow, Ann Bruere, relinquished her right of dower.11
