A Willem Buys was noted in the Schenk store records, 27 Feb 1769 as living at Oostrum's. A William Buys and a younger brother, Abraham were in North Carolina together. William Buis of Spartensburg, North Carolina wrote his will 5 Feb 1799 and named his wife Sarah; sons John, Lijah, Abraham, Jonathan, Elisha, Noah, Enoch, and David; and daughter Lidie. He also named grandson Jonathan Buis. Abraham and William Bise were next to each other in the 1790 census, 96 district. Jonathan, John, and Jenot Bise were also there. A Jeremiah Buice and John Buice were in Edenton, NC in 1790."1

There was a quetsion as to who his father really was, and he agian applied on 28 Jun 1826 and Peter Van Camp testified for him. He was an assessor in Darlington Twp. for the 23 Mar 1824 census. The listing for his family included a male age 86 and a female age 78, most likely his parents. The age of 86 raises the question that his father was the son of Matthew Buys and not of Johannes, but other evidence point to Johannes Buys as his father (Settlers of the Beekman Patent, v.3, p.102).3
